Barbed Wire Introduction
Feb 16, 2026| Barbed wire is a type of rope twisted and braided by fully automated barbed wire machines. It is commonly known as caltrop, barbed wire, or barbed cord. Finished products include monofilament twisted, double-filament twisted, and double-twisted barbed wire. The main raw material is low-carbon steel wire, but galvanized steel wire, stainless steel wire, PVC-coated steel wire, or high-carbon steel wire can also be used. The barbs can be made with stainless steel or alloy blades. Surface treatment processes include electro-galvanizing, hot-dip galvanizing, plastic coating, powder coating, PVC coating, and aluminum coating. Products are available in colors such as blue, green, and yellow. It has a wide range of applications, used for grassland boundaries, railway and highway isolation and protection, as well as for anti-theft and enclosure protection in factories, private villas, residential areas, construction sites, banks, prisons, military bases, garden apartments, government agencies, border defense, orchards, airports, and other locations.
The history of barbed wire application can be traced back to the 19th century. Early attempts involved using thorny plants as fencing. However, it wasn't until 1873, when DeCapo, Illinois, invented barbed wire for land maintenance, that barbed wire began its historical development. In recent years, barbed wire production technology has continued to develop, and related technologies have continued to innovate.
