The function of barbed wire

Feb 17, 2026|

Barbed wire is a protective material made of double-stranded iron wire with sharp spikes. Its core parameters include the barb spacing (typically 5-10cm) and tensile strength (up to 500-800MPa), playing a crucial role in multiple fields. In agriculture, it is used for livestock enclosures (a 5cm barb spacing effectively blocks cattle and sheep) and crop protection (barbs over 30cm high can prevent wild boar intrusion). In industrial settings, 1.8-2.5m high barbed wire fences are used for area isolation and security warnings.

Construction sites use galvanized barbed wire (zinc layer thickness ≥45μm) to demarcate construction areas. Prisons and other security facilities use high-strength alloy barbed wire (yield strength ≥1000MPa) in conjunction with infrared monitoring systems.
